What is The Nutcracker?
The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet about a young girl’s dream involving a Nutcracker doll. The girl, Clara is gifted a Nutcracker doll by her godfather, Drosselmayer. At night, the doll grows to lifelike size and leads an army of toy soldiers against the wicked Mouse King and his fellow mice.
Clara helps him defeat the mice, after which he transforms into a human prince, leading her on a wondrous journey to the Land of Sweets. Here, they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy and other magical characters who dance in their honour. As the celebration ends, Clara awakes, wondering if the night’s events had just been a dream.
